Harry Winston celebrated magnificent gems and looked to individual stones, rather than their setting, to dictate his designs.  Inspired by his incomparable passion for precious gems, he pioneered a “pure stone” aesthetic that allowed for jewels to shine with unimagined brilliance and fire.  Instead of heavy metal settings, Winston used an almost-invisible, three-dimensional platinum wire setting to highlight the brilliance of each individual diamond.  Creating incomparable luminosity of larger stones, the new “flowing” designs draped effortlessly over a woman’s neck and wrists, enhancing her own beauty with sparkling light.  Diamonds, and in truth, modern style and design, were changed forever.

Winston was also drawn to the geometry of nature and the organic beauty of flowers and leaves.  Inspired by the simple elegance of a holly wreath, and how each individual leaf shaped its structure, Winston recognized the potential of grouping – or “clustering” - multiple cuts of diamonds, set at different angles, to create sculptural, three-dimensional designs.
